Summer roadtrip : les Baux-de-Provence

A few weeks ago, just right after I got my very own car, I decided to go on a mini roadtrip to Provence by myself for a few days.
So on a very sunny and warm Sunday morning, listening to the Velvet Underground, I drove down south to my first location of the day.
Around 10a.m I arrived in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, a cute little town located just 30 minutes down south of Avignon (post coming next on the blog). I got coffee, got lost in the narrow streets, took hundreds of pictures, got lunch then ice cream and then I hit the road to venture to this outlying village I heard so much about, Les Baux-de-Provence.
Located on a rocky plateau in the heart of the Alpilles, the lovely town of Les Baux-de-Provence is a listed heritage site that has won titles such as “one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France”. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view over the Camargue so you can only imagine that the route to get there was absolutely stunning and wild!

Before visiting this lovely village I stoped by “Les Carrières de Lumières” which is a stone quarry that was formed 20 million years ago. The quarry opened in the 19th century then closed in 1935 as the demand for stone clearly declined with the arrival of new materials such as steel. In the 60’s, the visionary Jean Cocteau gave the quarry a new fonction has he decided to shoot his movie The Testament of Orpheus on the site. Since then the quarry has remain a cultural space but it was only in 2012 that “Les Carrières de Lumières” were born and opened to the public with their unique and innovative concept: AMIEX® (Art & Music Immersive Experience), a 3D experience show that will leave you speechless!  After Van Gogh, Monet, Klimt and more this year’s exhibition is “Picasso and the Spanish masters” followed by “Flower Power”, an immersive journey in the graphic universe of the Sixties and of course I loved it!
